Grapevine Catfish Report 5/30/09

Clayton and his dad Carl joined me for a Half-Day trip on Grapevine Saturday morning. Bait was easy to catch and I filled 2 gallon bags with fresh shad in about 10 throws around the Murrell Park ramp with my Bait Buster cast net. Unfortunately shad didn’t turn out to be the bait the catfish wanted. The gar sure didn’t mind though. We focused the trip on some shallow water patterns to put 33 channel cats and one blue on ice. Most of the fish were caught on Secret 7 dip bait by Team Catfish on Carolina rigs fishing less than 5 feet deep. The lack of wind made fishing tough at first. We had to keep moving to stay on the fish. Once the breeze kicked up a bit they enjoyed a steady bite to put enough fish in the box for a nice fish fry.
